Lenash, 26 months ago Hello Kelly. You know how you asked for feedback? I think it's a good idea to do this online audition. However, I think many people might not be able to audition because they don't have powerful enough computers - jumpcut requires a lot of power when trying to edit the movies, otherwise it won't work . That was the only thing. Thanks.
starbabyC, 26 months ago Hi Kelly! Thanks for hosting this audition through jumpcut. I hope that you enjoy my movie! Please feel free to leave comments of how to improve it; I'm also open to direction. =) Thanks for your consideration and I hope to hear from you soon! Christine

Cazacuta, 26 months ago Question! lol Um, so the top 20 movies (with the most love) are the "finalists" right?
| KellyWagner, 26 months ago That's correct. | ||
junebuggy145, 26 months ago Hi, Thanks for doing the audition this way. I am in the process of editing and then getting viewers, but how do I add myself to the videos in the audition section? Any help would be much appreciated! Cant wait to finish my auditioN~
| KellyWagner, 26 months ago Once you've compeleted your audition, click PUBLISH (bottom right corner). At the Publish page, enter all necessary info and at the SEND TO GROUP line, be sure to click the box next to AUDITION FOR THE POWER OF FEW . When you finish filling in cells , look to the bottom of that page, click the green PUBLISH button. You're audition will be added to the others. Good Luck! | ||
junebuggy145, 26 months ago One Last Thing: I am trying to edit my video and put in Dom's lines. How do I put it in between my lines? Thanks so much! Look forward to getting my video in the top ranks!~
| KellyWagner, 26 months ago Assuming your lines are one contained in one single clip and your movie starts on you.... Add your movie clip to the timeline, then trim that clip back to the point where Dom speaks. Now add Dom's clip, trim it to only use his lines for that part of the scene. Now, add the clip of you again and trim the front and back to use only the next lines, again per the script. So you basically use your clip multiple times, drag it in and trim it to the lines you want to use . Hope this helps! | ||
dianashield, 26 months ago Kelly, I really enjoy Jumpcut! So far I have no complaints and everything has been self explanatory. I believe this is new for many of us but through trial and error I get the results that I'm looking for. I enjoy editing the audition and adding the clips you have provided. Once again thank you and can't wait to see the final result.
bricyx1x, 25 months ago Hi, Has my audition demo been removed from the contest? It's not listed in the goup . Bri
| KellyWagner, 25 months ago We haven't removed it. But if it's missing , we'll look into it. Try republishing it for now. thanks! | ||
bricyx1x, 25 months ago OK. I republished it and it's on the group. Thanks
kcastaneda, 25 months ago Hi Kelly, 1st of all, thank you for being here to moderate and answer all of our questions and concerns. With that I just wanted to ask if it would lower my chances if I did not edit my clip? I like it how it is without cutting back and forth between me a Dom & Alexa but i don't know if it is a requirement that I edit it with those clips . Please let me know, thank you! Kat
| KellyWagner, 25 months ago Kat, Editing is not not required at all and won't effect the our judging. We would like for you to put the end tag in, but again, you won't be judged on that either . Good Luck! | ||
jess85, 25 months ago Hi Kelly, I was just wondering- I am from New Zealand and read in the rules that the winner will be flown from the nearest US airport: does that mean I would have to make my own way to Hawaii? Thanks, Jessica Smith P.S. My video will be on soon!
| KellyWagner, 25 months ago That is correct. Looking forward to your audition. Good Luck. | ||
dorismorris, 25 months ago Hi, I was just wondering if someone could look at my video and make sure that I am following the rules correctly. I see that lots of people have interpreted the improv part differently and I made sure to say the line "The Power of Few" in an improved line I did after the audition piece, but I just wanted to make sure I am doing it correctly so i can have time to edit it before the 10th. THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!! Courtney
| KellyWagner, 25 months ago Everything in your video is by the rules . The improv can be anything, in or out of character, or even an entirely new character. Good Luck ! | ||
dorismorris, 25 months ago THANKS!
greentek, 25 months ago Kelly, what's this about 'The Alphabet Killer '? You are casting for the mom of a deceased child, right? Are you doing this in the same fashion as TPOTF? I normally don't do family type roles as these seem to be a bit of a career killer, but this looks interesting. Please respond. Thanks, www.danielladotti.co... a>

khrova, 24 months ago Hi Kelly, I edited my movie today and it was placed among the most recent ones. I clicked on remove assuming that it would go back to its place but it got removed permanently. LexyLexy, 24 months ago To the Jumpcut Mods and the Producers, < br /> This audition was one of the most fun I've ever done. I've never goofed off so much during a tryout or had the chance to pick and choose the best pieces of a take and combine them with other people's monologues as well . I have a few concerns about the accuracy of the voting, but I'd like to point out some extremely positive aspects of this casting call that made it unique. 1 . No pressure. It's a common misconception that people who do poorly at live auditions can't perform adequately at show time. Live auditions for a show that will be rehearsed are akin to the SAT measuring how smart your are: it's a load of bunk. SAT tests measure how well you can study for a take a standardized test; live auditions gauge how well you can improvise and play a part when a few people sitting at a table and a couple of members in the audience competing against you are waiting for you to slip up or misconstrue a subtlety in the text. Some people can't take tests. Some people perform fine onstage as long at the audience is a face crowd of 3000 people and not a group of 30 of their friends and colleagues. Instead of becoming nervous after assuming a responsibility and expectations , I find it infinitely easier to act once the burden of judgment has passed. 2. Improvs . Again, the advent of the digital era neutralizes insecurities or anxieties; this is especially true when we know we can submit our best work or do whatever we want to feel unique and still keep a controlled segment of script intact to compare with other actors. 3. Opportunity . The Internet truly is the great equalizer . Sure, it's not such hot news for people judging contests—as a writer, I can tell you that the ease of electronic submissions has caused an explosion of slush pile submissions to agents and publishers from people who think that anyone can be a writer—but overall, I think it eliminates a lot of the class-induced advantages that privileged artists have over the less fortunate ones. I had some misgivings about not only the accuracy of the vote count, but the relevancy of it . 1. Different amounts of viewing time. Obviously, it was a lot easier to get 50 votes when the contest first began in late summer. There were fewer videos to watch and judge, more newcomers interested in the process who were around to vote, and more days (especially during the summer) to garner attention to a particular video clip. Not everyone had time to record that early. 2. Ability or inability of family members to cast votes. If your family lives in the same house as you do, every member of the family is going to have the same IP address or even the same computer. People with large or extended family with members scattered in many different locations will obviously have an advantage over others who do not. Similarly, those who had friends already registered on Jumpcut had a big leg up on the rest of us. 3. External publicity and promotion. Many of us spent a lot of time posting on our blogs, journals and other websites talking about the contest and asking people to check out the site and vote for us if they liked our auditions. I know I did, and I asked people to notify me if they had voted. All of the emails I received from people from YouTube, MySpace, etc. had free email accounts (like Gmail especially and Yahoo), and from what I can see on my user POV, I can tell they just joined Jumpcut to vote. 4 . Votees didn't understand the process. Then there were the people who commented on my audition who thought that was how one voted for a contestant, so they didn't click the heart. 5. IP verification. From what my techie friends say and the info I've read , it isn't that difficult to fake an IP address , and the FBI has to suspect at least several thousand dollars in damages before they will intervene and force an internet service provider to disclose their logs. Too busy fighting cyberpunks and script kiddies, I guess. The point is that anyone could come in and mess with the vote count or add suspicious votes to get someone disqualified, etc. We've all had our fair share of embittered enemies before , and I wouldn't put anything past an ex-friend with an Ivy League degree in computer science (yes, I am speaking from personal experience here. Someone sent me the Magistr worm in college and caused me to lose several papers and flunk a course, so I'm not just being paranoid when I say that people can hold grudges and find you via Facebook). 6. Doubled votes. When I was checking my home page to see who had voted for me or commented, I noticed that someone had given me two hearts for one video. I didn't think that was possible, so I went to some random videos from the 'Explore ' page and tried clicking them more than once . After about eight tries, I found out that when my computer was slow to load the videos and I clicked multiple times on the heart, the vote count would go up by two. I think it must be some kind of glitch. Over the next few days, I checked back on my vote count frequently, and it happened at least eight times, so my vote count should be at least that much lower. 7. Biases in popularity contests. The Saturday after the submissions deadline, someone put the tag 'boobs' on my audition. I got about 400 hits overnight. I tried removing the tag but ultimately put it back up because hey, if it works...XD My point is that as wonderful as popular votes are, they don't always accurately reflect the artistic merit of the competitors. Dan Brown vs. Bret Easton Ellis, or Alien Versus Predator vs. Million Dollar Baby : just because one is vastly more popular than the other doesn't mean one's work has more literary or historical value. Sometimes as artists we need to favor a meritocracy over a populist system or risk always catering to the common denominator at the expense of the original vision. One of the best auditions in my humble opinion ended at around 70-something votes , well below the cutoff point of 20th place . I would rather know that you all picked the winner out of all the legitimate entries, even at the expense of my own advantage . I realize that contests are just as much if not more about the publicity than the prize . Jumpcut's membership numbers and traffic rankings have no doubt increased in large part due to the outreach entrants have made in promoting their clips for votes. However, it 's your film, it's your contest, and ultimately , it should be your votes that qualify us, even as semi-finalists—not how well we convinced people to give us their 'hearts.' I did what I could to increase my ranking, but beneath that, there's a real need to be judged by professionals on a realistic level. Like several of the contestants who are trying to make a living with their work, I'm doing this to further a career, not just to fulfill a need for fame or the desire to win something. I don't want to receive such an important opportunity if I don't deserve it. I think many of the others secretly feel the same way.
| Jumpcut Support, 24 months ago LexyLexy . . . thanks very much for the feedback. We're constantly striving to make Jumpcut better and many of your suggestions fit right in with that objective. Online voting is certainly a challenge, especially when trying to balance simplicity with security. | ||
bevarg, 24 months ago I wish I was in the top 20. Sucks for the person that's in spot 21...knowing that you were one spot away from being considered.
bevarg, 24 months ago I do agree with lexylexy's comments mainly about the fact that the # of heart's shouldn 't determine which videos get reviewed and which one's dont..especially after knowing that having a tag like 'boob' can determine the # of votes you get and ultimately whether you get reviewed. Hmm..maybe I should've figured out which tags were popular and then put them with my videos. maybe you should get rid of tags and shouldn't use hearts to determine who wins a contest. The person who holds a contest should know that it takes a lot of work to select a person. So they shouldn't put up a contest thinking that they don't have to do much work since they just have to look at the # of hearts and select someone. If you are willing to put up a contest on here, then you should be willing to put in effort to review all the videos and not rely on the heart system since the heart system just relies on how many friends and family members a person has and how good they are at marketing rather than what they are presenting .

Savact, 22 months ago i agree with bevarg-- I agree! I hate that heart system. I had to save up to buy a camera and couldn't upload it untill really late into the competition. I hardly got any views, let alone the time to get people to sign up and give me hearts. A lot of people are hesitant to sign up to jumpcut just to vote for someone. The main people giving hearts were the other contestants. I think this is such a great opportunity to audition online and every video should be considered . The 80th video in the heart ranking could have the best performance in the world-- but noone will know because they didn't put their video up the second the contest began.
