jaredcicon, 24 months ago Dear Doritos, Something is bothering me, and I have to get it off my chest. Every submission that I have uploaded to Jumpcut (Crash the Superbowl) is having it's audio diminished with 4 or 5 seconds to go in the 30 second spot. The audio is being faded down . I have a fear that some of the submissions are being incorrectly represented as a result . I know I was personally tempted to edit a few of my submissions to counter this problem , but realized that the original file may be broadcast if I am lucky enough to win. In which case I would not want my audio to play in the jumpcut modified version. Additionally , if this problem persists, finalists may have thier projects judged harshly because of a music fade that was not intended by the editor . I am experienceing this in the case of my application of la Traviata. I want to avoid sounding winey, but when you combine this issue with video clipping in the beginnings and endings of the spots, it leave the viewer questioning the video creator , when in fact it was simply poor REPLAY on the part of JUMPCUT. These are real concerns to myself and a few other contestants that I have come to know through the Doritos group. I hope these issues can be addressed and fixed. These problems truly are changing the messages we are trying to put out. Thank you again for your time in the matter. p.s. Maybe if Jumpcut allows 35 seconds on the upload server , it could fix the issue. Then if compression started at 30 seconds, instead of 25 seconds it would be a non-issue. Everyone knows the spots can only be 30 seconds. Jumcuts clipping and cutting to enforce the 30 second window may be what is causing the glitch.
| Jumpcut Support, 24 months ago jared . . . here's a link to a help topic that explains the audio fade and how to get around it: http://help.jumpcut.... a> The Doritos moderators are aware of this solution, so don't worry about the time increase. | ||
WesAnderson, 24 months ago I've changed my video from 'public' to 'private ', so hopefully it can be posted now. Thanks !
jaredcicon, 24 months ago Hello Doritos, I'm starting to feel a little inadequate. I did what JUMPCUT suggested and added a slug to the end of 'At Your Disposal '. I then uploaded it to Doritos. I eliminated the old version form the Doritos page and now there are no versions of 'At Your Disposal '. I'm now guessing that the video will have to go through the entire approval process, . . . am I right? If so, how do I add a slug and replace the old video? I saw nowhere on the jumpcut editing page where you could add a slug. Am I just a retard? Sorry for the extra amount of work I give you guys. Sometimes it would be easier if I wasn't such a detail oriented good looking chubby white boy. I would like to add a slug to ' A No Brainer' and 'A Chip Lovers Dream', but if it means that I have to go through the whole approval process again (and lose love points), I will just leave them be. < br /> respectfully, Jared Cicon
| Doritos, 24 months ago Hi Jared, No problem, we want to resolve this issue as much as you do. Your original submission of 'At Your Disposal ' has already been saved for the judges. We recommend that you re-submit your orginal version and we'll approve it, so that it can go back into the gallery. Once it is in the gallery again, then you can add the slug to that version without waiting for approval and losing love points. < br /> Let us know if that works! | ||
| Doritos, 24 months ago Hey dmccoig, We tried answering Jared 's question on this page, but we had some difficulty uploading the comment. Since we had the information handy, we went ahead and dropped it on Jared's page. You don 't need special permission to add the slug , feel free to edit your video. We'll be placing the comment about the slug on the main page tonight. | ||
Doritos, 24 months ago Hi Jared, Thanks for the message. We understand your concern and frustration, so we turned to our Jumpcut experts for help. It turns out that they have a blog post that explains how to effectively eliminate the audio fade - htt p://help.jumpcut.com /2006/05/25/audio-fades -out-at-the-end-of- my-movie/. Adding the slug will increase the length of your videos, but our moderators are in the loop and won't hold it against you . By making this change, you won't alter the original file and, if your ad wins, the additional 5 seconds won't be aired on TV. We hope this helps, Jared, thanks for bringing your concerns to our attention!
| somethingtv, 23 months ago Hi Doritos, It's getting down to the wire. I'll be you're swamped . Are you posting newly approved videos in order or might they appear randomly in the gallery. Thanks, SomethingTV | ||
jaredcicon, 24 months ago Thanks Doritos, I understand that the original version I sent in will be the one judged by Doritos. However I have already sent in another copy of 'At Your Disposal' that I would prefer to show in the gallery. Not only did it incorporate the (Final Cut) slug, it also included a small piece of audio /video which makes the vacuum come alive. I know I will not benefit from this edit as far as the judgeing goes but since it was my original intention for characterizing the vacuum, I prefer that it represent me in the gallery. Other contestants have modified thier videos along the way as I and they understand that this is acceptable practice. Our modification will not change our original submission. If I have this policy wrong, please let me know. For example: My first submission of 'A Chip Lovers Dream' (Rock Climber Guy), had some annoying announcer lines during the climbers free fall. The original purpose was to have only wind and chewing sounds. I fixed the error and re-submitted the spot. It has been playing in the gallery for weeks now in the corrected version. I understand that the ERROR submission with the disturbing audio will be the one that Doritos will judge. I have to live with that. What gets seen and given love points by fellow group members however , can be the corrected video. I know that Doritos has it's policy concerning initial submissions, but since this spot is going to be aired during one of the most important advertizing moments in the calendar year, I wonder if some provision for review and final draft errors might be wise. Even Ad agencies must go through a review and correction process before ultimately being broadcast. < br /> I am not suggesting to Doritos I know better how to run their contest. I will certainly accept any policies set forth as I understood them from the beginning of my invovement. My goal though is probably similar to Doritos in that I want to give them the highest quality product possible. I am a late bloomer and decided to go to college late in life. At age 40 I took english 101. The beauty of draft revision really hit home for me in my cirtical thinking assignments. As a film editor I have discoverd that this revision process is indispensible in creating refined product. I am sure that Doritos does not want to be indated with daily re- submissions and re-edits, however until the December deadline comes and goes, I believe there should be some mechanism whereby contestants can refine and retool the initial message they intended for thier spot. Once December arrives, the videos will be locked in. < br /> In the end I believe that Doritos will get a finer product. If by chance Doritos decides that the original (unrevised) submission is still superior, Doritos can let the contestant know. If we as contestants are willing to work and refine and give options so that Doritos has more to choose from, I can't see where this hurts anyone. < br /> In a contest with 1,000 submissions, this fredom to edit may be impossible to manage , but as it stands the number of submissions currently in the gallery is around 70. Re- editing and revision could help the video pool from which Doritos chooses. I think anything that insures a better product is good measure . Thanks for indulging me through this epoch. Respectfully Jared Cicon.
| Doritos, 24 months ago We definitely appreciate your comments, Jared, and we're circling back with the team to review a number of ideas that users have brought to the table. As soon as we have an update, we will get back to you . Thanks! | ||
zacwitte, 24 months ago I still have not heard word from you guys. Did my video make it in? Thank you
| Doritos, 24 months ago Yep, it's in the gallery now! | ||
indreams, 24 months ago Let's put it this way. Are the judges going to be privy to the fact that alot of these commercials are going to be fading out early on the audio and they won't mind leaning in a little bit to hear the last few seconds? Because I would feel more comfortable with that, than going back in and trying to tweak the end of the spot and running into problems , and modifying it again and again.
| Doritos, 24 months ago No worries, indreams, the judges will be reviewing your original submission, not the uploaded version. This means that there will be no audio fade or leaning in necessary for the judging process. | ||
indreams, 24 months ago lol...that's great news...thank you.
goldpalms, 24 months ago Hello Doritos, Just uploaded Compelling Doritos and was wondering what the usual time frame was for making it into the gallery. We had great fun making it and hope you (and site viewers) enjoy it. One thing: We shot it with a DVX-100A and the uploaded mp4 sample didn't seem to reflect the quality image of the original; is this typical? Thanks so much for conceiving of the Crash the Super Bowl contest and extending this unique and incredible opportunity! GoldPalms
| Doritos, 24 months ago We received your submission and it is now in the gallery. We are glad to hear your enjoyed the experience. As far as the quality, it is typical for the uploaded version not to reflect the quality of the original...no worries. | ||
azcomedyguy, 24 months ago Dear Doritos, We have uploaded our submission and are wondering...is it OK to post it on sites like YouTube and Yahoo video? I know there was some fine print about submitting entries that previously appeared either in other contests or websites. Thanks in advance for your timely response. AzComedyGuy
| Doritos, 24 months ago Yes, you can post it on other sites...go for it! | ||
azcomedyguy, 24 months ago I guess I should add that you have approved it and it is on the contest website. Thx.
goldpalms, 24 months ago Hello Dorito, I may have pressed Send one too many times and sent a video called DoritoMP4 to you. That was the name of the original file for my Compelling Doritos entry . Compelling Doritos should remain in the gallery and in the contest, but if you received a separate video submission entitled DoritoMP4 it is redundant and was sent in error and should be removed. Thanks. Gold Palms
lowbridge1, 24 months ago Hi guys, I don't want to be a pest, but I've got a couple of messages to you posted from my page about getting my commercial back on your gallery - one from yesterday - and I'm not sure you're getting any of them . Could you let me know if I should repeat myself here... or are you all just getting super busy?
Doritos, 24 months ago We received your messages and we are checking with our technical support to help get you some answers so your uploading is easier. We will be in touch more soon.
Nells, 24 months ago Hey Doritos, Hereditarily delicious is up and royalty free. Also, does it have to be listed as Private and not Public in order to be posted ? I read what The Wes Anderson wrote above .
Nells, 24 months ago I switched it to Private, so hope that works . Can't tell I'm anxious can you? This is the coolest contest ever. Hey one more thing . The Super Bowl viewing party? Is that going to be located somewhere inside the stadium ?
AARON1, 24 months ago I UPLOADED MY COMMERCIAL ON 11/15/06 AROUND 7:30 PM. DID YOU RECIEVE IT? WHEN WILL IT BE ON THE WEBSITE? IT' THE ONE WITH GUYS PLAYING BOCCE.
| Doritos, 24 months ago We did recieve your video, we posted a comment on your jumpcut homepage about the music and wondering if it was royalty free, if you could just let us know then we can approve your submission and get it into the gallery. Thanks again! | ||
guerilladelphia, 24 months ago Hi, I uploaded my commercial and just wanted to make sure that you have received it. Also, I've noticed that you have been asking about the sound on many entries and the sound on my video IS Royalty-Free, it was created by me for the commercial. Thanks!
| Doritos, 24 months ago We did receive your submission and it is in the gallery now! | ||
MRestive, 24 months ago yes, my music is roality free!
TimmyCrackCorn, 24 months ago I know you're going to have to ask -based on other posts I've read -- so I thought I'd just help you out ... my submission Half-Time Score contains all royalty free or custom music (and sounds for that matter.) All my future submissions will contain homemade and/or royaltly-free music as well, but just let me know if you need me to state it for each of them. (No problemo.) Thanks!
| Doritos, 23 months ago You've got it figured out TimmyCrackCorn ! Just let us know what your music source is when you upload your video and it will definitely speed up the approval process . Thanks! | ||
| TimmyCrackCorn, 23 months ago Ditto on the 'A Sixth Sense' video ... contains all royalty free or custom music and sound effects. Thanks. | ||
gbern, 23 months ago can I re submit my video trying to ge the quality better, but not changing any content?
| Doritos, 23 months ago Good question! You can make the change so that it looks better in the gallery, however the judges will view your original file . | ||
Jason_Gould, 23 months ago Concerning Lost my video... I used apples Soundtrack pro for my ending piano part, it's royalty free... also used Reason 3.0 to create the sinister swell when they eat the doritos.
| Doritos, 23 months ago Hi Jason Thanks for the heads up! We'll approve your video now. | ||
jerky62, 23 months ago For CSI I used Digital Juice Music Back Traxx 2 1. Coiled and Deadly 2. Purgatory SFX Sound FX Library Thanks
CodeRedProdu..., 23 months ago if you already uploaded your video, how do you change it from public to private? Or do i have to re-upload it as such?
| Jumpcut Support, 23 months ago CodeRed . . . on the view page for your movie, there's an "Edit" link below the player (look for the blue link with the pencil) . . . when you click on that, you 'll see the options to change visibility . | ||
johncordell, 23 months ago It's quite annoying that so many people are modifying their video for the sole purpose of getting back to the top of the recent and recent-loved list. Makes it very hard to see the new videos, plus inherently unfair, effectively line-cutting. I realize it won't affect contest outcome at all, but are there any mechanisms available to you to curb this practice. For instance, can you freeze the entry of offending participants? Maybe disable love points for them? Ammend the rules to disallow the behavior? Or even interpret the current rules in such a way the the offending entrants will in effect be penalized for their rude line-cutting behavior? At a minimum, you should make it clear that what they're doing is a bad idea and ask them to stop. It feels a little bit like standing in a line for a movie and half the people are choosing to ignore the line and walk up to the front. Seems like a good time for the management to step in and at least say something .
| Jumpcut Support, 23 months ago john . . . thanks for the comment . . . we've recognized the sorting as an issue that causes discomfort in contests so we 're changing the sorting to by by original date submitted in our next release < br /> the reason the sorting works the way it does is to highlight content that has been recently modified. since we're an online editing site vs. simply video sharing , that's an interesting way to look at content . that said, it doesn't work well for contests so we'll be making the change | ||
MikeRebeccaSrdx, 23 months ago Dear Doritos, What is the turn around time on getting a submission approved? Have not heard back on our submission for a couple days now and just wanting to be sure all was in the works. Thanks
| Doritos, 23 months ago Thanks for checking in! We normally approve videos within 24 hours. We did review and approve your video but it seems as though it is no longer in the gallery. Please keep in mind, if you remove it for any reason from your jumpcut page, it also removes it from the gallery. I apologize for the mix-up...to be safe it would be great for you to send it again. Thanks! | ||
jaredcicon, 23 months ago Hey Doritos, I see you posted 'A Taste to Die For'. Thanks. I will try to figure out how to get the clip icon changed so as not to confuse the people viewing it. Jared
| Doritos, 23 months ago That sounds great. Thanks! | ||
CodeRedProdu..., 23 months ago Hey, The edit link below the player does nothing when i click on it to try to change it to private rather than public.
| Jumpcut Support, 23 months ago Are you sure you're clicking on the blue edit link with the pencil? | ||
TimmyCrackCorn, 23 months ago Is there any way to change the thumbnail icon that represents your video on all of the pages ? Thanks, Tim
| Jumpcut Support, 23 months ago Here's how to do it: http://help.jumpcut .... | ||
| TimmyCrackCorn, 23 months ago I just tried this with 'Doritos RELOADED ' and it didn't work, the thumbnail is still the same. I followed the directions step -by-step. I used the movie as another clip , picked a spot where I thought it would make a better thumbnail, put it at the beggining, and drug the handles so the duration was ZERO. Still uses the image at about 7 seconds in like everything else. Any suggestions? | ||
skene19, 23 months ago Yes, everything is absolutely royalty free. I got all the sound effects and music from Apple's Soundtrack Pro which is to be used as a royalty free program to create soundtracks . I will be adding 2-4 more commericals and they will contain Soundtrack Pro material, also. Thanks, Skene19
| Doritos, 23 months ago Thanks for getting back with us! | ||
McBrown, 23 months ago Dear Doritos, I used the same program as before so the music is roalty free on poker chips. MCBrown
| Doritos, 23 months ago Great...thanks for letting us know. | ||
Nells, 23 months ago I'd like to up the volume and image quality of my submission. When I compressed the file the quality really diminished. Is it possible to do this? If so, how?
| Doritos, 23 months ago We will pass on this on to JumpCut and get back with you. | ||
| Jumpcut Support, 23 months ago We suggest compressing to QuickTime using Sorensen3 if you can. | ||
robotdoritos, 23 months ago All of my music is royalty free! Thanks Doritos!
| Doritos, 23 months ago Thanks for getting back with us. Your video is now in the gallery. | ||
jmnkcsy, 23 months ago The original format of my submission is 16x9 , but the jumcut interface forces it into a different aspect ratio. Do I need to modify this myself to allow it to be viewed in its original aspect? If this is the case, Could I do so without risking disqualification? I would also like to knock up the volume on the web playback and add that slug that everyone is talking about.
| Jumpcut Support, 23 months ago jmnkcsy, if you have a 16:9 video, letterbox it to 4:3 before uploading. Once you upload the new clip, you can add it to your already submitted movie (click the green Edit button to open the Jumpcut editor) and delete the old one. That's also where you can add the 5 second black slug to get around the automatic audio fade. | ||
| byron, 23 months ago we're working on a way to better support 16:9 (it works automatically for some video formats), but for now, changing the aspect ratio yourself with a letterbox is the best bet . . . what video format are you uploading? | ||
| jmnkcsy, 23 months ago My video has now been modified to reflect the original aspect ratio and a slug has been added. No content has been changed , but there's now a different movie file in place of the old one. Thanks to Byron and Jumpcut for the technical support. | ||
killianfour, 23 months ago We accidentally deleted our PASS THE DORITOS submission - I then went to our Jumpcut page and chose share with group. Will that get us back in, and is that OK? Thanks
| Jumpcut Support, 23 months ago That's the correct way to resubmit. Make sure you resubmitted your movie as opposed to just the clip. | ||
subconscious..., 23 months ago Hey Doritos - I am not sure if my entry made it into the group. (first time using jumpcut ). I had to upload a few times, because my internet connection kept failing. Is it in now?
| Doritos, 23 months ago Thanks for checking with us! Right now we do not see it, so go ahead and upload it again. | ||
skene19, 23 months ago I just submitted a commercial. The editting file and quicktime file both say that its 30 seconds on the nose. However, for some reason, the jumpcut file says its only 29 seconds . Will my submission be disqualified because your rules clearly state each commercial has to be 30 seconds on the dot? Let me know.
| Doritos, 23 months ago As long as your original submission is 30 seconds...you are good to go! | ||
killianfour, 23 months ago HI THERE! We are sure hoping that our accidental deleted entry has made it back in - - PASS THE DORITOS - - THANKS!
| Doritos, 23 months ago Good news...it made it back in and it is in the gallery. | ||
toon, 23 months ago Just posted Doritos Rain and the time registerd after upload was :29.This was edited in FCP and the spot is dead-on :30 in FCP. Am concerned that jumpcut registers it as :29. What should /could we do about this? steve@steventaubproductions .com

kristin, 23 months ago Hi, I am trying to upload my video but my it won't upload. It looks like it starts to upload - goes to 50%, but then the % disappears and it says, No Asset. The conversation text keeps appearing for hours , but it's not uploading. If I use html, it looks like it's uploading, but then just stops , and my movie never uploads. And when I try and upload the video from the jumpcut site , itself, from my profile, it attempts for a while then stops and says, Unknown file extension . I am using a Mac G5, OS 10 .4.8 I used Final Cut Pro 5 to edit and exported my video as a Quicktime file, but that file was 108.5 mb. So, I exported it as a Quicktime file with custom settings set to MPEG-4. My video details are: kind: Final Cut Pro Movie File size: 95.9mb on disc Dimensions : 720x480 Codecs: MPEG-4 video, Integer (Big Endian), Timecode Duration: 30 seconds I also made the quality less where my file size was 43mb, and the same thing happened - it stopped uploading after 50%. I've e-mailed Jumpcut a bunch of times and nobody has gotten back to me. I want to make sure I make the submission deadline. Please help! Thanks , Kristin Catalano
| Doritos, 23 months ago Hi Kristin, Sorry to hear that you 're having so much trouble! We just followed up with Jumpcut and they will definitely get back to you shortly. Thanks for the heads up! | ||
| Jumpcut Support, 23 months ago Kristin, our support team has emailed you but they haven't heard back from you. In general, QuickTime encoded with Sorensen 3 works best. | ||
AZ196F, 23 months ago Don't know where to post this, but the music on my entry was created by me so there shouldn 't be any royalties I have to pay unless I have to pay myself. Lol.
| Doritos, 23 months ago Hey AZ196F, Your video was not able to be transferred from the approval section to the gallery. Do you mind resubmitting it so we can get it into the gallery? If you delete the video from your jumpcut page it deletes it from the contest page as well. Thanks in advance! | ||
kyla, 23 months ago Hi, I made a mistake and removed my video from the website..is there any way you could put it back on there?

| kyla, 23 months ago I click remove | ||
| kyla, 23 months ago I clicked removed from the contest | ||
| Jumpcut Support, 23 months ago If we stretched your video on transcode, it would probably be a good idea to re-upload a 4:3 of your own. | ||
toon, 23 months ago Hi looking for our spot - we posted it yesterday at 2ish in the afternoon, ny time . titled: Doritos Rain is it still passing the taste commission? or do we need to re post? or am i blind? thanks. elisa of steven taub productions .
| Doritos, 23 months ago Hey Toon, Do you mind resubmitting your video? Let us know when you do and we will get it approved and into the gallery ASAP! Thanks in advance! | ||

TimmyCrackCorn, 23 months ago Hi Doritos. I could have sworn the contest rules used to say 10MB size limit, and so I encoded my first two videos to 10MB or less . Now that I see it is 100MB -- regardless of whether it changed or I just can't read -- can I resubmit my originals at a higher bit-rate/quality without it be considered a duplicate submission and without losing comments and love? I will be sure to encode at a higher bit-rate from now on.
| Jumpcut Support, 23 months ago Timmy, you can upload your new video clip and then Edit your original movie and switch the old clip out with the new one in the Jumpcut Editor. Here are the steps: 1. Upload your new clip (select "Make a movie later" on the upload page ) 2. Go to your original movie and click the green Edit button to open up the Jumpcut Editor 3. Go to the Add tab and drag your new clip into the timeline 4. Delete your original clip from the timeline 5. Save | ||
No_Joke, 23 months ago Having some problems uploading when I do it through the Doritos.com interface. Sometimes , the upload will complete (% upload ticker disappears) but the video preview screen won 't pop-up. When this happens, if I log in to Jumpcut the video appears on my page as a clip but not a movie -- and I'm assuming it doesn't register as an entry because the same thing happened on my first entry Fuel Your Life and you asked me to resubmit. The latest upload this happened on is Doritos -- Before & After. Please let me know if it went through ok, or if there 's something I'm just doing wrong. < br /> (By the way, the music in Before & After is original and composed by Jason Retana.)< br /> Thanks in advance.
